Meet Meraly

When Meraly Diaz joined the Old Window Workshop Cooperative in June we had recently moved into our new space just off the loading dock of a century-old monkey wrench factory.
Every craftsman and distributor in the building began to look in our direction admiring the sense of order and productivity she created in our little space.

Meraly is an artisan entrepreneur.  She learned to bake in her family’s bakery business in Puerto Rico and inherited a fierce dedication to customer satisfaction.  She began to strike out on her own when her unrestrained imagination led her to design elaborate, fanciful and exquisite cake sculptures for weddings and events.  Customers still reach out to her asking for her one-of-a-kind creations.  Meraly loves things that are colorful and humorous, which may explain her vast collection of historic Coca Cola memorabilia.  She is very fun to spend an afternoon with browsing the Brimfield Antiques Fair.

I so enjoy Meraly’s hearty assurance to every problem:  “I’ve got this, Pam.  We can get this done!”  Her laughter is infectious.  Her constant focus over long hours on her feet glazing window sashes won her the admiration of all the self-employed craftsmen in the building. Her impressive organizational ability inspired one wood worker to hire her to bring order to 25-years of accumulated tool chaos.  He smiles every time he opens the door to his shop now.

After Labor Day, Meraly launched her dream of a career in environmental health and safety. She is a full-time student at Holyoke Community College now studying for tests, writing essays and most enjoying her lab class.  She works nights at Environmental Consulting Services in Agawam on their emergency response team.

Still, Meraly gives us her insatiable entrepreneurial spirit as a worker-owner of the Old Window Workshop Coop.  Even-though her hours in the shop are mostly on weekends, Meraly’s business acumen keeps our focus on efficient production of quality work and long-term vision.

I’m just happy whenever I get to work with her.
